Parippu Curry or Dal Fry is an Indian dish.  All over in India prepare this dish. Very easy to cook and healthy dish. It will go with Roti, Rice or even you can consume it as a soup too. For toddlers, you can give as porridge.


Cooking time: 15 minutes 

Serves 4 

Ingredients needed: 

1/2 cup of moong dal (cherupayar) or Toor dal (split yellow gram) 

A pinch of turmeric powder 

1/3 cup of ground coconut (optional)

1/2 tsp of cumin or jeera seeds (jeerakam) 

2 of shallots (ulli) 

2-3 of green chillies 

For Seasoning

2 tsp of Coconut oil (Oil as per your wish)

1/4 tsp of dark mustard seeds 

2-3 shallots, make it slices 

1 red dried chilli, make pieces 

1 tomato (optional as per your taste)

1 strand of curry leaves 


1. In dal add turmeric powder, green chillies and add water enough to immerse dal and cook dal in a dry skillet until it turns a light brilliant dark colored. 

2. Grate the coconut add some water and some jeera seeds grind well  into a smooth paste 

3. When dal has done, Keeping the fire on low, include the ground coconut blend and some salt to the dal. Cook until very much mixed – around 5-8 mins. 

4. Warmth oil for seasoning and add the mustard seeds. When the mustard seeds have popped and the red dried chili crisp begins to sparkle a dark red, add some jeera seeds and remove from fire and mix everything into the dal blend. Blend well. Garnish with fresh curry leaves. Serve hot.
