What is MicroGreen? 




MicroGreen, the meaning is hidden itself in the word, nothing else but miniature plants, herbs, or other vegetables. The first leaves come out from the sprout of seeds and vegetables 2-3 inch height, this is called Microgreen. 



These tiny plants contain a higher amount of vitamins and carotenoids. Nowadays it took a great level of the nutritional power distributor and immunity booster. Microgreens harvesting period is 12 to 14 days. In this stage, it will reach its height of fully nutritious and perfect with its aroma to be ready to consume.

In India Microgreen becoming popular and started part of our daily diet. 

The healthy consciousness keeping in mind Indian Gourmet-Cuisine restaurants in metro cities started serving microgreen in salads, appetizers, sandwiches, desserts, mocktails.

Microgreen ๐Ÿ˜Šplanation at home is so cheap and easy procedure. In any type of house, those who have no facility for outdoor plantation too can grow. It doesnโ€™t need direct sunlight. Just with fewer utilities, you can create Microgreen at your indoor.


You can grow any kind of seeds like grams, chickpeas, peas, pulses, wheat as well as vegetables like turnips, radishes, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, celery, chard, lettuce, spinach, cabbage, beets, parsley, and basil can be grown as a microgreen. For your daily meals, you can utilize these all if you grow from time to time.


By growing microgreen at your home, you can be an assurance to eat without fear ๐Ÿ˜Šof pesticides or insecticides. This means you are creating your own organic microgreen.  By doing this you have many benefits, good health as well as mental happiness.

How to grow microgreen at your home?


You can grow either in soil or even without soil also. Both methods I will introduce here.

Required items for microgreen growing are –

  • Any kind of pot or any plastic trays that is 4-5 inches deep or empty containers comes with food. 

  • Soil / Tissue paper or cotton cloth, even coconut fibers also can be used. 

  • Enough sunlight: Essential amount of Sunlight at least 3-4 hours a day. A great place for your microgreens will be windowsill or balcony where sunlight enters.

  • Enough water watering needed care, soil or any other bases should be moist all the time. but should not be exceeded. A hand sprinkling way is enough to water. Preferably use mineral water, avoid chemical contained water.

Steps by step of  growing your organic microgreen in Soil
Soil Method

  • Fill the tray/container with 3-4 inches of height soil. This much height soil is more than enough for the microgreen to survive.


  • Once the soil prepared,  organic seeds ready to spread ( for healthy microgreen overnight soaked seed is preferable) you can spread with your hands as space not necessary for the microgreen.

  • On the spread seed put a thin layer of soil and gently pat the area.

  • Damp the soil with water. Just sprinkling with the sprayer is enough, take care not to put excess water.

  • The first two days keep at room temperature until germination begins. Afterward place the pot to a sunny area, 3-4 hours of sunlight a day is enough.

  • Water just sprinkle over the sprout twice a day. Within 3-4 days period, small leaves will start to come out from the soil.



  • In a week, the surprise will start, your container full of healthy microgreen ready to welcome you. When it reaches 2-3 inches taller it is ready to be cut. If you prefer a bit more longer, you can wait for more days.

  • Microgreen harvesting is quite a hurdled free task. Holding them vertically cut the microgreen with sharp knife or scissors from just above the roots.
  • Wash them with normal water and these tiny nutritious leaves are ready to enhance your food. Use it fresh or store them in a paper wrap, refrigerate for next use.
